Make Money From Home

The idea of just creating some website and making money off the Internet automatically haunts millions of people worldwide. What most people do not realize is that a cash generating website must be treated like a business. And, just like any business there are a myriad of factors which will ultimately affect your success.

First and most importantly, you need a product to sell. It is almost impossible to start a business of any kind with no products to offer. Imagine for a moment that you are starting a restaurant and you bought the tables, the oven, a brand new refrigerator, spent thousands of dollars decorating the place and on opening day you realize that you forgot to create a menu! In other words, you have everything in place, except the product.

Your product can sometimes be your website’s content in the online world. Of course, content quality and quantity would determine your product’s value. Making a profit from web content alone could be a very difficult proposition, though. And, most scam make money online opportunities will try to convince you they deliver huge rewards via advertising or affiliate commission revenues.

Let’s say you start a content website and get 25K page views per day. This number is actually huge in terms of traffic. Your ad network will report about 5-10% of your actual logged traffic. This means your 25K page views are now only about 1K according to your ad provider. At $2 CPM (Cost per thousand impressions), your website is making between $0.50 and $5.00 per day. Ask any webmaster to verify.

The math changes slightly if your site depends on affiliate commissions. A generous 1.0% CTR click ratio from your site could be sending around 200 people over to your affiliate websites. These affiliate programs will usually inflate their conversion ratios, but in reality 1 in 200 or worse are most likely. So, your super high traffic website is only producing about ONE affiliate commission per day.

Advertising and affiliate commissions are not going to make you much money unless you find a way to send millions of visitors to your website.

Every money making website that states:

* Newly discovered, never revealed marketing secrets

* Nothing to sell

* You don’t have to do anything

* 100% automated

Is most probably a scam!

How can you really make money from the web?

I’m not going to recommend that you start up a blog site or put together a $99 PDF e-book. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against blog sites or e-books, so let me explain. If you start a stand alone blog or put up a single web page promoting some e-book, it will take an enormous amount of effort to make the website profitable.

On the other hand, let’s say you created a special widget and built a website to promote this product. Now, I totally recommend a blog to supplement and promote your product. You could even sell an e-book on how to maximize your widget’s full potential. Can you tell the difference?

To make money online you need to invent something, and then promote it!

Cashing in on the Internet a few years back was child’s play. In a couple of days you could slap a website together and be making money within weeks. Times are rough, times have changed!

Another option is the MLM that never goes away. Disguised in one way or another, the basics still remain the same. Buy something for a fee, and then get others to do the same. Everyone will share a piece of the pie, while the owner gets the biggest piece.

Other old concepts still in play are the get paid for… answering surveys, clicking ads, reading emails and my favorite: stuffing envelopes! Why would anyone pay you to stuff envelopes when there are machines that can stuff thousands of envelopes per hour? Anyway, none of these schemes are really worth your time!

Let us not forget those thousands of e-books out there promising to make you rich through adwords and affiliate programs. Only those selling these books might make a dollar or two, you probably will not.
